Piller to post...

One of those days where you have a certain idea of how things are going to go, and then fate conspires to completely turn that upside down.

I was supposed to do induction at the forensic medical centre today - the tour, the talk, morning tea, all the treatment. Only somehow it had been arranged (without consulting my boss, who'd signed me up for the induction) to have the guy from the courts reporting service come to train me in court recording procedures so I can tape inquests instead of leaving it to the service to do remotely. So, I got yanked out of the induction and hauled back into court.

Richard showed me what to do, gave me a bunch of stuff to refer to, and once court started he was doing the logging thing, writing down the first three words of each different speaker so the transcribers would be able to tell who was who. Hmm, more complicated than recording in Magistrates' Court where you just log which case is which. After about fifteen minutes, we adjourned in order for the solicitor for the hospital to chase up some stuff. That turned into two hours and we reconvened after lunch. Only to get another five minutes in and have the solicitors for all involved request an adjournment until tomorrow.

Which means twenty minutes of actual training time for me. *SIGHS*

Richard's coming back tomorrow, and hopefully we'll actually have a court running so I can learn this and get accredited. But man, what a waste of a day. Well, not completely - I wrote four findings of death for the coroner to look over, and did some editing for another, impressing him with my L33T typing and computer skills along the way (I had to indent something *rolls eyes*).

Still love the job, but gah what a comedy of errors today. The one day I don't want to be in court I have to be, only I can't because there's nothing to actually record...
