Ai-yi-yi...
So, remember the part where one of the prosecutors was going to be moved to another section, along with Vera, the other assistant, and I was going to be responsible for three? Well, today the reality started hitting home, with the reassigning of James' cases to Jane and Rebecca. Having finished yesterday's project (to much acclaim when I handed it over), I spent today transferring files, updating the litgation summary which tracks all our cases, updating various personal charts belonging to lawyers, identifying conflicts of dates and addressing those as well as possible, collecting the ten files which will be going to trial over the next three weeks for preparation... Yeah, I've been a busy girl today. Tomorrow will be the physical transfer, where I raid Jame's office and relieve him of the actual paper files and redistribute them.
And then nest week or so, I get to do it all over again! News came through today that Alvin won't be back before January now, so we're going to have to reassign all his current cases. Hopefully we'll be getting someone to stand in, since Jane and Rebecca can't handle the entire prosecutions load. I did spend today packing up Alvin's personal items, since said replacement will be using his office - we're sending that stuff back by courier. I'm going to send out an email tomorrow asking if anyone wants to include any personal notes of well-wishing, to get them to me by next week so I can include them. Given how many people ask after him, I figure I'll have a nice little envelope of messages to tuck away in there.
Things are basically going to stay at this pace for a while, I think. Which means a) I barely have time to read emails, let alone answer them and b) I'm kind of wiped in the evenings, at least until I get used to the pace again. So if I'm seeming a bit curt or distant, believe me, it's me, not you. I don't have a lot in the tank right now, especially since the meds are still messing with my REM sleep dream-wise and I'm waking up tired.
Still, all this means I get to show how much I rock, and come October and my contract expiry/performance review, I should score myself a nice permanent government job with all the perks. :)
