Breaking with tradition...
Usually at this time of day on Boxing Day we would be down at the races, except we've all been struck down with a terminal case of the lazies. The family invasion yesterday could have something to do with it. Also the over-imbibing of the past few days...
So Mum and David and I watched the extended DVD of Fellowship, and now there's cricket on. *shakes head* Poor, poor England. It's sad, seeing them get their arse kicked quite this badly. Talk about ducks in a barrel. Dad's doing paperwork in the dining room (I think I usurped his office space by logging on) and I've been catching up on LJ and toying with an idea for a LOTR fic about Aragorn. Damn movie-inspired plotbunnies.
This week's been kinda odd. Following a weekend of way too much intoxication (Wondermouse's farewell on Friday night, meeting up with some mates of Phil's on Saturday, 'recovery' in the pub on Sunday which ended in red wine and watching Buffy, thanks to Amanda's Season Six tapes), my two days of work were done pretty hard. It doesn't help that I've been moved to a desk closer to the counter (as in right behind it), and spent most of my time answering inquiries from silly people who should be doing something better with their lives that close to Christmas. My only relief is the knowledge I wasn't in Family Law - the intervention order staff were flat out both days, including orders being requested at 4 pm Christmas Eve.
Anyhoo, I survived despite the Christmas shopping done during my lunch hour (never again, I swear by all is holy, will I go near a place of sale that close to the Day again!), and after collecting my laundry and leaving a little something for Phil to be festive with, I caught the train home. My brother executed a perfect pick-up at the station - he was standing exactly opposite the door I got out of, we went straight to the car, dumped my bag in, and were the first (of the very many people there) out of the car park. Perfect military operation; Dad would have been proud. *grins*
Because my grandmother was still in hospital with her knee operation (she's been kept a few extra days with a small infection), our normal Christmas lunch of just us four was not going to happen, so we had a Christmas Eve supper instead of the best of the seafood they'd gotten for Chrissie dinner (Mum doesn't do the roast thing, and if you had Christmas in the middle of summer, you'd get seafood too!), and drank and talked and watched Carols By Candlelight as per normal. I managed to log on long enough to mail some stuff I'd done on the train to and from Melbourne, and then staggered off to bed when the connection kicked me the fourth time. Stupid Hotkey, you are so dropped when I get my own place.
I won't go into a big description of our Christmas. Nice weather, only reaching the thirties (um, somewhere in the nineties, for the Farenheit folks). We visited Nana in hospital with Grandad, then came home and opened our prezzies. I'd gotten a travelling mug for my brother in Skidegate in the Queen Charlottes, and found some nice plain dinner plates for Mum, who hadn't realised she needed them but which came in handy at lunch, that's for sure. Dad I bought a copy of Fellowship of the Ring with tickets to The Two Towers inside - we're seeing it tomorrow evening in Albury. *does the happy dance* I got some clothes for work (don't look at me like that, I like getting clothes from Mum. She has good taste for work stuff, and it saves me from the Evil of Work Clothes Shopping) and a nifty paiseley couch cover which appeals to my Inner Hippie (getting more exercise these days, she is). David had already paid for film developing, which was cool, and that was that with the swag. Grandad and my cousin John came over for dinner, and I called BRM (answering his call whilst we were at the hospital) and then the rellos descended. I tell you, it's scary when the kids you remember babysitting have kids of their own...
So now I'm being lazy and doing the online thing, which is good. I got pain on Tuesday, so I have money in my account, which is also Good, and BRM says he still has the money for my bike frame, an unexpected bonus. Don't get those very often, unexpected financial bonuses. So, I'm here until Sunday (mental note, must book train ticket back), and then it's Melbourne and work and house hunting. And it looks like I'm going to have to take off soon and deliver food to the grandparents - we're the Meals on Wheels whilst Nan is out of commission.
There's another New Year's type overview post brewing, which I'll leave to later, but for now, best wished of a non-specific-holiday type to all, enjoy yourselves, and don't make yourselves sick by eating too much. *grins* Love you all. :)
