"I'm not the old girl, I'm someone new," she said
Yep, back to the use of lyrics as post headers. Mainly because I've got the song, and particularly that line, stuck in my head.
Wow, busy past few days. It seems like I've barely had time to scratch myself, and here we are, Tuesday already. So, to recap:
Friday: My last day at Melbourne Civil. And yea, there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth and rending of garments, and that was just the morning tea party. *grins* Actually, one of the best last days I've had in a while, and believe me, working in this job, you get a few. They like to keep us juniors circulating. Highlights were: being told that the place was going to fall apart without me and Alli; having one of the Criminal registry staff describe me as "the gun clerk in Civil that everyone's talking about" (gun clerk meaning that I'm good, not that I'm in charge of gun licensing); getting rather squiffy with Alli at the Mint (another pub for us to investigate, Phil - great outdoor area) during the afternoon I wasn't allowed back to work; and FLOWERS! I got flowers! *dances happily*
Now, you might not think I'd get so enthused about a bunch of foliage, but underneath this highly practical and somewhat tom-boyish exterior lies the heart of a true girly-girl romantic. And flowers will do it to me every time. Especially when I don't actually remember the last time someone gave me flowers. And I wasn't expecting work to do anything for me, any way, considering I'd only been there six weeks. So I was chuffed. :)
Saturday: Hangover. Yeah, I wasn't too well that day, mainly because I'd been foolishly mixing beer with lemon Ruskis (a pre-made lemon and vodka mix). So I spent the day lying low and arranging fun-ness with Yasmin and Phil for the Sunday. Alas, no kinky karaoke for this pixie. However, I did find out on the Friday that Alli's husband was a karaoke DJ in a place on Exhibition St that is still pretty good. This might require investigation. ;)
Sunday: The St Kilda Festival. I haven't seen anything from the other two about it, but let me just some it up this way - sun, beer, music, food, shiny things and many, many, many people. Highlights include the rock climbing wall I scrambled up whilst the other two waited patiently, the cycling races near our chosen brunch spot (cyclists! in Lycra! with really nifty shiny bikes! *drools*) and the bar we stopped at and recuperated in that had a really good DJ and a great Sunday arvo mix. Not so cool were the crowds and the Quest For Beer that occurred later in the city, much to Yasmin's increasing displeasure. ;) Not cool when you find every reliable pub inexplicably closed. We ended up at the Bridie O'Reilly's in Little Collins, and after a few cleansing ales or five, we took ourselves home. I ended up walking the entire way as the trams were far too slow for me.
Monday: First day at PERIN was very quiet. And yes, as everyone in the courts kept saying, the people are lovely. And I have my own desk, that I can put my own crap on. *grins* It's actually a nice workplace, and because we take half-hour lunchbreaks, we get one rostered day off (RDO) per month to make up for it. And there's flexi-time, meaning as long as I do my eight hours per day, they don't care when I arrive/leave. So early starts and finishes are looking good.
Tuesday: Hmm, more PERIN training, including going through requests to revoke fines and making judicial-type decisions as to whether people had a valid legal argument or not. On sticky-notes, just so my work can be checked. *grins* Got my job application to Amanda for betaing (apologies again for the lateness, mate!), and then took myself off to karate. A good session - I can still actually move. ;)
And that's it for now. Been a lot busier lately, but hopefully once these job apps are in I can relax again. I even did a spot of writing tonight, before the lure of LJ. And I've been doing some Southern Stars pimping too, considering it's been a while since last time. Did you guys know the list is in second year already?
