Silent running...

So, last night's karate last night was one of the more surreal experiences I've had this week. It started off normally enough, although the warm-up game of indoor soccer was a new thing (and very good at getting the blood flowing!). Then we swung into the training itself, only to have a woman appear at the door, asking us to be quiet.

There was, apparently, a play going on downstairs.

And seeing how the gym we were in actually belonged to the school who were putting on said play, there wasn't much in the way of arguing we could do. So, for the rest of the evening it was Silent Karate, with sparring accompanied by shushing noises instead of kiais, grappling with very gentle takedowns, and whispered commands. It was bizarre, to say the least.

You probably noticed I've been busy this week. Or at least, intermittently busy, with alternating exhausted periods. So my week's pretty much gone work-karate-work-sleep-work-karate-work-talk to Mel on the phone tonight. Not much time for anything else, which is kind of good, since I've discovered I need to keep busy, otherwise I get bored and then it isn't long before the maudlin LJ posts start.

I've also signed up to join the Magistrates' Court cycling team. They run a team in the Round the Bay in a Day ride (210 km around Port Phillip Bay in October), which I may or may not be suitably prepared for, and the Port to Port ride from Mildura to Echuca in November (it's a relay type situation, with team members doing 30km stints). There will be training rides on Sundays, starting soonish, I hope, which will mean I'll a) be exercising more, and b) won't be moping around at home complaining about the lack of human contact. The Round the Bay may very well kill me (I've done it once before, many years ago), but at least I'll give it a go. I will need to get the bike serviced before then - the headset's started creaking, which doesn't bode well. And I need new cycling shoes too, with SPD cleats - ones that fit this time, since these ones are a tad too large and my left knee gets a bit twingy occasionally.

Hmm, looks like it's time to contact BRM again.

There's plans for a Bring a Bottle evening tomorrow after work, to welcome the new boss, as it were. And he's already making changes, with staff being rotated around the office and Team Plan projects being handed out. Definitely going to need a bottle. ;) The weekend is also busy-ish, with [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]'s birthday party tomorrow and bo training on Sunday. And laundry.

There's always laundry.
