I was re-reading Raymond Feist's Magician in the bath last night and I had something of an epiphany.
I can write better than he can.
No, seriously; he's repetitive, has great chunks of text where nothing in particular happens, cliched themes, and doesn't know the plural of Knights-General (no, it's not Knight-Generals, Ray. Go to the bottom of the class). Not to mention other annoying, but less-memorable errors, which may be more an editor's responsibility, but still.
So basically all I need is the huge, world-space-and time-spanning story arc and a publisher who agrees with me and I'm set.
*waits*
Damn.
