So, the Legal Aid interview happened. It went pretty well - I was straightforward and clear, and they responded positively. Downside is they couldn't give me a definite pay rate - just the range, depending on experience, of $29-44K. Not exactly helpful in my decision-making process. I was upfront about the other interview, and told them I wouldn't be able to make a decision until after that, which may go against me - they want someone asap, and hope to have a decision by Friday. Bit of a contrast to the nine weeks of waiting here. *wry*

Now for the nervous churning in my stomach to go away. And to do an extra hour of work to make up for the abyssmal transit karma that had me back here late. :P

Clarification edit: The job specs have the pay rate at $29-44. I asked for something more specific today, and got told they couldn't give that to me until it had been worked out according to my experience. No job offer today, but they did say they'd have a decision by Friday, and would want someone in the position by next week or so. The pay discussion was hypothetical.

Hmm. They extended an offer and gave such a broad salary range? That doesn't sound too good. Or do you mean that an official offer won't be given until Friday and this talk was just tentative?

Nah, the salary range was on the job ad, and was quoted back at me again today. When I asked for something more specific, they couldn't give it to me. Talks were strictly tentative. Sorry, I should have made that a bit clearer (and edited accordingly. ;) ).

It may go against you, but it's also a good thing in your favor: it shows them you know what you want, what you're worth, and you're not desperate. If they're serious about you, they'll hire you. If not, their loss and in the end, you're better for it because you won't end up in a job that might not acknowledge what you're worth!

I have 50 minutes left before I can go home for a long weekend. It's all too possible that I'm the only one who misunderstood ;)

Still sucks that they couldn't give you any real info and want to make such a quick decision. If they had given you a better idea, then at least you could consider it now and make a quicker decision.

Yeah, pretty much. It's frustrating, since honestly, it is pay that's going to determine which of these I take. However, hopefully if they do have an offer for me, they'll have been able to get a better figure. We'll see.

Just emailed Jane about her being my referee. She's good with it, even tho' she wants to keep me here. ;)

*nods* They appreciated the honesty about the other job, too. I'm in a tricky position, but I'm not going to play games - I suck at that sort of thing and it's only going to backfire if I try. And you're right, it shows them I'm aware of my abilities. Wow, me being confident, who would have thought?

Hey, you've always struck me as being very upfront and straightforward. Even back in the day when I read your fics, your very nature just showed in your TCP series. ;)
