Icon by [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], an old mate. The guy is Paul McDermott, an Australian comedian I've been following since his very early days. He's a deliciously evil little man, with a wonderful singing voice. To see him not in a white shirt and black suit is kind of boggling, actually. He looks like an Aussie tourist. The drop bears line is homage to my particular fondness of that story - it's best told in person, so I'll save it for New Year's. ;) This is my "being Aussie" icon.
*grins* This is a photo taken on my last night in Melbourne, at the Elephant and Wheelbarrow pub in St. Kilda. [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] is on the left, I'm in the middle, and [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] is on the right. It's my "tribe" icon, the one I use to express how much I truly love you guys. :)
Another [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] icon. Chiana from Farscape, from her intro episode where she was being taken back to her home planet for behaviour modification. The sentiment - "You don't own me" - is one I think is very important to remind myself of. I use it as my "be strong" icon.
I already answered this one for [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]: here
Hah. From [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] via [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]. Mo from The Simpsons. It's my "feeling sorry for myself" icon, since there's times when I can understand the sentiment all too well.
Made by [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]. *grins* My X-Project pimping icon. Because sometimes, we do take our game a little too seriously - I love it all the same.
Found on [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], by [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] from photos she took herself. Driving across Canada during Walkabout, I saw this sort of scene, and I think it was around then I decided I wanted to live here one day. I'd have used one of my own photos, only it was pre-digital camera ownership and they're back in Australia, unable to be scanned. ;P

Death! I've been a Vertigo fan for almost as long as I've known about comics, and I liked the text in this one. Which completely failed to come out big enough to read. *wry* One of these days I'll learn to add text with Graphic Converter. Used randomly.
Made by one of my Aussie fanficcer friends, [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], back in the early days of LJ ownership. I was known as the Subreality writer with the lizard muse, Frank, so when I asked for icons, lizards were one of the topics of possible icon fodder and Dia made me this one. Another random icon.
I took this picture from the Great Victorian Bike Ride website - it's one of the GVBRs that went through my home region. It incorporates what I tend to identify as "home" - endless horizon, dry, dry grass in summer, the khaki smudge of eucalyptus trees. Plus cycling - I used to be quite the tourer. I use it either talking about cycling, or when I'm talking about home.
Made by [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], this was an icon I used to use for [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], back when she was dying her hair black. I liked it so much, I switched it to my own account when I switched back to the blonde. I adore this icon - it's so much fun. For XP talk, or when I want to reflect being silly.
This is an icon I made of one of Alasdair's photos on his [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] journal. I asked permission to use his pics for icons, originally for Amanda only, but then there were so many I liked, I grabbed some for me. It's not terribly clear - it's back in the early days of my icon making - but it's a tree festooned with fairy lights. A light tree, as it were. For when I'm feeling whimsical.
Taken from the movie Hero, which I wanted to like more than I did. I'm something of a martial arts movie geek, and I adored the swordplay in this one. At least, the first time the story was told. ;) This is my determined, taking a stand sort of icon. Or being grr-y.
Emily! A good friend, [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] introduced me to Emily the Strange, and I adore her. She's so wonderfully snarky and random. Mostly a random icon, although sometimes I use it for situations where I think someone's being too dumb for words.

le Tour! Made by [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], this is my official Tour de France icon. "Green doesn't mean envy" refers to Robbie McEwen being in the running for the sprinter's green jersey (that's him in the picture), "Yellow doesn't mean fear" refers to the overall leader's yellow jersey (that's Aussie Stuart O'Grady in the pic, from several years ago) and "Last year doesn't mean anything" is about Lance Armstrong winning every year. It's a little out of date now, obviously, but I still use it every July. :)
Another icon from [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] Originally meant for Amanda, I liked it so much I kept it for me. It's the sex icon, used for when I'm feeling, well, sexy.
This is Agate Beach, on the Queen Charlotte Islands off the coast of British Columbia. Amazing place, even in September. The picture isn't mine, but one I found online and adored. I tend to use it when I'm feeling travel-y, or sometimes for feeling alienated from things, given it's such an alien-looking landscape.
When I was a court clerk, I used to joke that my job meant I was "the grease in the wheels of justice" - basically, clerks keep things going. Same goes for legal assistants - I use this icon for talking about work. The fact it's the same image as one of [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]'s icons is complete coincidence - I googled "cogs" and that was the one I liked.
Zoe and Wash love. I adored that relationship, which meant of course it was doomed in a horrible way. *shakes fist at Joss* And this scene was one of my favourites. I use this for my happy couples icon, or to express general love for things. :)
Already explained above to [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]
Another of Alasdair's photos, I call this one "drug of a nation", from an old song: "Television (The Drug of a Nation)". I use it for conversations about TV shows, or for when I think people are being particularly sheep-ish and not thinking for themselves.

From memory, that's a Gaiman quote from Good Omens. It's a good way of summing up how I try to operate, although, being human, sometimes I don't manage the absolute honesty as much as I like. But sensible social lies? Definitely. I use this one for knotty discussions.
Mythbusters! I love this show, although I don't get to watch it any more since we don't have an aerial at home. For being random, geeky or silly.
made by [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], in response to a conversation we had about someone saying I'd gotten [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] drunk in order to get my way. Anyone who knows me and Dex knows that's just ludicrous. I was so amused by the idea of people being my drunken puppets, IJ made me an icon.
This is a screenshot from a favourite movie He Died With A Falafel In His Hand. That's Noah Taylor. It's not the shot I wanted, but there's so little pics around from the movie I took what I could get. It's from a conversation about the 13th 'moonth' and the pagan sacrifice of the king. I use it randomly.
I have so many favourite bands, when I saw this on [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], I had to grab it. A personal joke - every time I talk about a specific band, I use it. Except for the Whitlams - they have their own icon. Which needs text.
I recently decided I had to fill all my icon slots, so I went through [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] for new ones because Erin's icons rock my world. For someone who adores sushi and talks about it semi-often, I didn't have a sushi icon. Now I do. :)
