I hereby declare today a Rossi Day. :)

Actually, it was a Rossi day, since it's almost seven-thrity in the evening, but you get the picture.

After sorting out my credit card payment (only $400 to go, whoo!) and arranging a vehicle for the Great Victorian Road Trip to AussieCon, I got on my bike and pedalled over to Akbury, which is, as regular readers of my LJ may recall, about ten kms from my door. It was a lovely day - warm and sunny with just a slight breeze, and I made good time. First stop was a spot o' shopping - I'm in desperate need of new clothes, as most of my current wardrobe is now a size (in some cases, two sizes) too big for me. But with my current financial position, I had to be careful and not go whoopee. Luckily, I hit a couple of sales - got a pair of cotton shorts (and they're quite short) for $5 at one shop, and two pairs of jeans for $60. And for the first time ever, I found jeans that not only fit nicely around my waist, but didn't need rolling up at the legs. And they're not so baggy I look like a baby elephant, which is the case with all my current jeans, except the really old faded ones that have worn seams. So all this is good. I couldn't find a nice dress (for work - I have resigned myself to having to look girly for work, and since that's the case, I might as well look good. *grins*) or skirt that I liked, so I may have to try again next week at the shopping centre near work.

Then, as my tolerance for bad music (as played in every shop I went into) and shopping exhausted, and a fit of hayfever making me very sniffly and sneezy, I paused at the Post Office to buy a twenty-pack of blank CDs (for $19.50) and to pay a bill, and then I went to the cinema to check movie times. Kiss of the Dragon started at 4.15 and ended at 6pm, which worked, since I didn't have my lights and it gets dark around 7.30pm. So, it being 3.30pm, I went to have lunch and kill an hour before indulging in solo movie going.

Let me say this. Wodonge sucks as far as decent places to eat go. Albury has the monopoly, for some strange reason. I had a great veggie pastie with home-made tomato chutney on it, and salad, and a big glass of fresh pineapple juice (which is damn good for hayfever), for about $8, and then a coffee at the excellent coffee shop next door. And so it was a happy and sated Rossi that took herself to the Cinema Centre for a couple of hours of martial arts fangirl bliss. *grins* There were only three of us in the cinema. That's a country town on a Friday afternoon for you.

Let me say this now: Jet Li is a kung fu legend. The plot was pretty basic, but solid, and what made it was the fight scenes. Absolutely fucking amazing, pardon my language. Violent - gruesomely so, in some parts - but somehow beautiful. A fighting ballet. And unlike a lot of martial arts movies, I found most of the fight scenes credible - there were or two points where I was going "as if!" but those were few and far between. Even the part where Jet Li's character takes on an entire room full of black belts somehow worked. Of course, anything that uses escrima techiniques gets my vote. ;)

After the movie there was another pleasant cycle back home in the late afternoon, and now BRM and I are pondering dinner - which I'm not really worried about because I'm still full from lunch and the popcorn I had at the movies. But I feel good, and content, and I feel that I've accomplished something instead of sitting home all day. I have a warm and fuzzy glow that's only partially attributable to sunburn. And this is a good thing.

Now I'm going to have to save my butt off to make sure I have enough for Aussiecon. ;)
