Not the best start to the day

So, last night at the pub, as I went to pay my bill, I discovered that my debit card had been cancelled. Thank goodness it was at the Griffin, since I'd packed away my credit card to stop using it and the roomie was non-liquid as well. A check of my account last night online revealed two ATM withdrawals that I hadn't done, totalling $440.

Yep, that's right. I was skimmed. Somehow they got my PIN number and a copy of my card and cleaned me out before the bank realised something was up and cancelled the card.

So, it was off to the bank with me this morning before work. New card, new PIN, investigation report lodged (since they cancelled the card, it's extremely probable I'll get the money refunded) and they even asked if I had funds to go on with, since it'll take 5 working days to process (I do - the bank cancelled the card before they got into my overdraft, so I've got that for a few days).

As far as new experiences go? Not my favourite. I slept horribly, I've been grinding my teeth all night and my neck is not happy. But, everything has worked out, so at least there's that, right?

Ouch. I'm glad that the bank caught it so quickly, but still.

Ouch.

I hope they figure out who did it and string them up.

It also could've been a skimmer device. Do you guys use the same ATMs?

That's not cheap, that's frugal. ;) I do the same thing.

Urk, sorry to hear that. Glad the bank caught it, though.

OMG! That's horrible! Thank goodness the bank responded so quickly and that you'll probably be getting the refund. But for that to happen to two of you within a week or so?! SCARY!

That sucks!

Ugh, I feel your pain after having my Visa toyed with last year... not fun to look at your statement and see charges for plane tickets!!!

Interestingly (and annoying but also relieving?) Visa is now super-vigilant about my card. We were out to dinner in June and the waitress, unbeknownst to me, double-swiped my Visa. Well, they froze it immediately and I had to call and confirm that I did indeed go to a movie and have dinner at Moxies!

Sensible! That's the word I use. *preens*
