The end of the court is nigh...

Actually, today was the last day for sittings in 2001, so the end of court has been and gone, unless the poor buggers are still sitting. Which isn't an impossibility considering there was a contested Family Law application and a bail application still to go when I left at four.

The last two court days have been horrendous. Being the last sittings of the year, all the 'urgent' applications filed in the last week ended up on one of these two days. I got home totally brain dead yesterday after sitting in that damn grey box of a room for almost the entire six hours of work, and today I'm only maginally better, saved by the lucnh we had at the pub next door at the suggestion of the local solicitors. This is one of the reasons why I like small courts: Christmas tim is just that much cooler, because the local firms remember the help the court's given them over the year and do stuff like invite us to lunch and give us hampers or bottles of wine. *grins*

I forgot to mention BRM has also put the canvas blind up outside the dining room window. Which means it's infinitely cooler in here. Two jobs (the shed and the blind) which have been waiting for almost a year, and now they're done. And Cecil got a service today too, which is also good. BRM's sudden attack of conscience has been good for me - he even bought me Tim Tams this morning when he went to the corner shop. A peace-offering, I think, after he told Greta (who dropped in yesterday) that I was in a bad mmod after work, when I was just exhausted. We've been able to talk things through better, and he's starting to take charge of his life again - he's accepted the position offered by Murtoa Secondary College (which is near the Victoria/South Australia border, in Victoria's premier rock climbing region), when earlier this week he was vassilating because he wasn't sure if he could do it. He does this, makes plans and goes half-way through with them, and then has a sudden fit of self-doubt and throws it all away. But this time he's too broke (and in debt) to not go through with the teaching gig, so he's taking the plunge. I have to admit, my comments of "well, you have to do something" and "you'll never know if you don't try", probably aren't what he wants to hear, but it's what he's getting. He's off to his folk's place tomorrow morning, and I probably won't see him until some time in January. Time to get the place cleaned up and get used to living here alone.

One more day of work and then a three-day weekend. There's some kind of work lunch on in Wnagaratta tomorrow that Pete's driving me to, so I'll try and wear something a tad more casual than today's dress and heels. Yes, Rossi wears heels, albeit low ones. My job calls for smart business-type wear, which on occasion means skirts/dresses and stocking and heels. And I have to admit, I like looking nice sometimes - I do scrub up half-way decent, even with my hair in the state it's in. The AussieCon pics should tell that tale. I still haven't gotten it cut, mainly because I don't have the dosh - when I can't see where I'm going, I'll have to go. Hopefully by then I'll have been paid.

That backpay still hasn't come through, either. The backpay I mentioned a couple of months ago, the one we're supposed to be getting as a result of a pay rise. Bastards. A nice little bonus in my pay packet would be very welcome about now.

I'm working next week, Monday, Thursday and Friday. Catching the train down to Melbourne directly after work on Friday, and provided there's no delays, arriving at Spencer St Station in plenty of time to jump on the Skybus to the airport and catching my flight to Brissie. Since I'm having the week of New Year's off, I had to do my share Christmas week. The train's rarely late *touches wood* so there shouldn't be a problem.

Tired, still, kinda sleepy, actually. BRM's dozed off in the beanbag. It's that kind of afternoon - too hot to do much except sleep. Makes dinner an interesting prospect, since it's too hot to cook and we already did the toasted sandwich thing last night. And I'm still really full from the ravioli I had for lunch.

Catch you later - nap time. ;)
