So, I've been in London for three-ish days. I've done the tourist walk thing, been to many and various pubs, and talked more than I thought possible.
It's been a great start to the Walkabout.
The thing about meeting ficcers for the first time is that after a minute, it's like you've known each other for ages. You're just reminding yourself. The in person thing is easier, because you don't have to worry about typos, or misunderstandings generated by the lack of vocal or facial cues (smileys can only go so far!) and ideas and thoughts and opinions bounce off each other like some kind of creative nuclear reaction. And the ideas have been flowing a-plenty. Expect some Phil Foster fic sometime later once he settles down in one spot long enough to write.
I like London. Yes, it's got a few too many people and the smog has given me a permanent sore throat, but it's a wonderful jumble of old and new and strange and mundane. It's one of those places that I find oddly familiar - perhaps because much of Melbourne's architecture is copied - homaged, actually - from the Old Country. It's curious, because I keep feeelign like I should know where I am, and in reality I have no clue. I'm starting to get a handle on the Tube - as well as ideas for the Neverwhere crossover I was considering at one stage - to the point I know which station is closest to Farli's bus, and where we're meeting CynJen today.
We're having the ficcer interchange today - Phil is off to see his parents in the Cotswolds (don't you just love the way that name sounds?) and CynJen is coming to play. And hopefully a Jewels at some point, too. *hinthint* We're off to the British Museum, and then the comic and book stores. Hopefully I can restrain myself. :)
And I've fallen in love. With the World's End pub. Too bad it won't fit in my backpack.
