So, I've been in London for three-ish days. I've done the tourist walk thing, been to many and various pubs, and talked more than I thought possible.

It's been a great start to the Walkabout.

The thing about meeting ficcers for the first time is that after a minute, it's like you've known each other for ages. You're just reminding yourself. The in person thing is easier, because you don't have to worry about typos, or misunderstandings generated by the lack of vocal or facial cues (smileys can only go so far!) and ideas and thoughts and opinions bounce off each other like some kind of creative nuclear reaction. And the ideas have been flowing a-plenty. Expect some Phil Foster fic sometime later once he settles down in one spot long enough to write.

I like London. Yes, it's got a few too many people and the smog has given me a permanent sore throat, but it's a wonderful jumble of old and new and strange and mundane. It's one of those places that I find oddly familiar - perhaps because much of Melbourne's architecture is copied - homaged, actually - from the Old Country. It's curious, because I keep feeelign like I should know where I am, and in reality I have no clue. I'm starting to get a handle on the Tube - as well as ideas for the Neverwhere crossover I was considering at one stage - to the point I know which station is closest to Farli's bus, and where we're meeting CynJen today.

We're having the ficcer interchange today - Phil is off to see his parents in the Cotswolds (don't you just love the way that name sounds?) and CynJen is coming to play. And hopefully a Jewels at some point, too. *hinthint* We're off to the British Museum, and then the comic and book stores. Hopefully I can restrain myself. :)

And I've fallen in love. With the World's End pub. Too bad it won't fit in my backpack.

Hmm...

Must find appropriate pub-like place to take Rossi... The Off Campus Pub? Not pub-like enough... Ah, well, I have until November...

World's End. . .

Heehee. . .That was like, the only pub I ever went to in London. First time with Phil, and then I took people there when I lived there. . .Joselina and I went, Kerry and Jill when they visited me. . .That place is great. I've always wondered if Neil Gaiman had like, a favourite spot to sit in there, and if he did, have I ever sat there?

World's End...

Assuming it's the one in Camden, across from the station, it's got a long history, especially twined with comics. World's End was named such because it was across the street from the execution grounds. Mother Shipton used to make her prophecies there, sipping her ale and watching men twitch at the end of a rope.

Alan Moore apparently wrote half of 'From Hell' sitting there. Ellis' first arc for Hellblazer starts in Camden, close to the pub, and you can see it in a couple of backgrounds. And Gaimen used to frequent it, at least so his blog states

As far as I know. . .

That's the only one. . .the one in Camden. . .I've never really heard of there being another. . . :)

Thanks for the extra info, Dex. :)
