And that, Alanis, is irony.

It's been a good day. :)

Slept well, woke around 9:30 and got some XP stuff done. Headed out to meet [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] at the subway station around 1 pm, and headed downtown for ice skating, later joined by [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com].

I discovered the joy that is figure skates rather than the hockey skates - they have the pick (the little cut outs that let you brake) on the front, which is much more like roller skates. Back when I was a kid, I used to roller skate a lot - it was a regular weekend thing for my brother and I to spend a couple of hours down the rink, especially during summer holidays when mum and dad were working. So yeah, this time I did much better. Even started doing the proper turning thing with crossing over my feet, although there was much of the wobbling. The ice is softening pretty quickly, though - I think if the weather stays like it has been, we've pretty much had our last bit of skating for the season. :(

There is, however, a plan to buy skates at the end of winter (they're cheaper then) and make it a regular thing next winter. And owning skates means being able to go to the smaller rinks around the place, which are less crowded than NPS.

The ironic thing was that after two hours of skating, and nary a fall, I managed to slip on a patch of ice whilst going for hot chocolate with [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]. *wry* Very sneaky ice - perfectly clear, perfectly smooth, didn't see it at all. Went down pretty hard on my knee, which is feeling rather bruised, however, I shall live. *grins* Used to have a lot worse when I was mountain biking and doing the karate thing.

Besides. Slipping on ice? Is such a Canadian thing to do. ;)
