Okay, so in an effort to expand my music tastes (and to get something else appearing in my 'last three comments' screen when I log in), and to use up the $14 I have left on my birthday iTunes voucher, I am turning to my friends list. What I want people to do is to rec a band/musician and a song you think I ought to purchase. At 99 cents a song, that's 14 songs, but if there's more response than that, I'll tide those recs over to when I get myself the next iTunes voucher. Or a Canadian credit card. *grins*

There's only a few 'don'ts' in terms of stuff I won't listen to. I'm not a huge fan of heavy metal, I loathe most country music (the twangier it is, the worse it is, but I don't mind the more rock-y stuff) and I don't like gangsta rap of the 'all the bitches and the hos' variety.

So, have at it. Name a song (with the artist, preferably, so I can find it).

Edit: If I don't comment, it means I don't have it and will be looking for it, be it on the roomie's computer or the iTunes store. I'll probably be posting a big ol' music squee later. Thanks to everyone so far. I'm looking forward to this.

Alabama 3/A3 -- Honey in the Rock, Mansion on the Hill, REHAB, Woody Guthrie (banjo warning, but it's worth it), Hypo full of Love... heck, pretty much anything you find by them. I'm in lurve, have been for a while.

I have one Stereophonics album (thanks to Phil), but I can't remember if it has this song on it or not. If not, it's on the list. :) "Easy Like Sunday Morning" is a personal fave. :)

KT Tunstall's album "Eye to the Telescope." I really like "Suddenly I See," but the whole CD is very good.

Yeah - I've heard a couple of songs from that album and they're great.

And, for what it's worth, get the Decemberists "The Crane Wife". It's a beautiful album.

...as in more hooked than the two songs from "Hook" that got airplay a number of years ago ('Runaround' and 'Hook'). Their big strength is extended jams at their concerts ... but (oh yeah) you wanted song recommendations ...

hmmm ... how about "Canadian Rose" from "Straight on Till Morning" (plus other disc issues)

The reason "Hook" is so catchy is that the melody and chord progression are based off Pachelbel's Canon in D. There's an entire list of songs that use the same chord progression, and it's hilarious how many people have all those songs on a playlist and can't figure out why they all sound vaguely familiar...

Rossi, if you want Blues Traveler, they are on my iTunes.

I think I'll be going through your iTunes first with a full list from this post before I do any buying. ;) Although, your PC doesn't like my iPod, so I'll have to figure out another way of transferring stuff. Hmm, maybe a USB stick might be in order...

Just plug the portable hard drive into your Mac. If that doesn't work, I've got a USB stick and lots of blank cds.

... I fergot these guys (http://thekimberlytrip.net) ... a Sacramento-based 'power pop' (also called geek pop) band ... not to mention friends of mine.

Check out the link for who they are, and follow the 'merch' link on the site for a list of albums, and CDBaby links with song previews. I think all four of their studio albums are on ITunes...possibly their semi-acoustic "concert album" too (which would be the only way you could get it -- the discs are sold out and won't be re-burned) Studio albums #2 through #4 have the band in their current lineup.

... And besides ... I've got a photo credit on the last two albums -- so the more I push these, the more slices of my 15 minutes of fame I can check off ;-)

First advice, if you are looking for Canadian Music, Download the CBC Radio 3 Podcast... you will find more cool songs per hour than you will find in a day on commercial radio, its pretty much the best of Canadian indie music.
