I have to get in a mood to wiki, or else I turn into this little ball of frustrated miserable.

I believe this is because Wiki coding makes no logical sense. Give me CSS anyday. T_T

It's not that. I know how to do it, it's that I hate to do it. Like, I would rather somehow completely backcode it in HTML by hand and throw it into a parser, but there is no such thing because wikicode literally makes no sense.

I contract webdesign and I want to make my wiki(s) so pretty, but I'm all grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr like an angry cat at the way wiki is set up in general. D:

Some wikis certainly let you apply CSS to your pages, you just have to do it back-end. Although you still need to add content through the normal channels.

Well, you write the stylesheet, you change the backend code to apply the stylesheet, but then the content, yes, you still add with wikicode in the normal way. The system is, after all, designed for people who don't know html or CSS. And for them it is simpler. And for us it should be easy enough to add to our already code-filled heads. It's just a little extra thought. I think wikis are fab.

I know. D: It's a personal failing, I think. I know a lot of people who program who are like \o/ WIKI

I just... I can't find the logic in it, and my brain kind of short-wires itself. :( I really like that it's accessible to more people, and kind of wish I learned it before I learned HTML, so it would be all I know - but I seriously can't figure out why ''' would be bold when [b] (with carets instead of brackets) would work just as well. =/

For me, a href makes perfect sense; The a is the link, the href is the protocol (hypertext reference) that is a difference from just using, say, an anchor. For me, it's like... trying to eat spagetti with a spoon. It can be done, but it doesn't make sense and is really hard for me. :(

[identity profile] marrog.livejournal.com 2008-08-27 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
But it's just a different form of reference for the same thing, formatted in virtually the same nesting tag way, only with less to remember. If you can learn both HTML and CSS I see no reason why this would be any harder to add to the set...

[identity profile] lheena.livejournal.com 2008-08-27 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
For me, it's because there's no reference logic.

In CSS, to make something bold, you make a class regarding the font style.

In HTML, you use the B tag (for bold), or the [stong] tag, which also makes sense to me.

''' '''? That means nothing. That's just... single quotations. Lots of them. And when I can logically take the step and say 'well, if 'b' is bold, then 'i' should be italic, or that 'font-style' works in a class, then 'font-size' should, too.

My brain, though, and the way I think of things is far from the norm. I understand that everyone else uses it, and likes it, and I will do it if I have too (and have, in the past), but it's very very difficult for me and intensely frustrating.

*foot scruffles, slowly shuffles off to the left.* This would be where I think that perhaps I should update mine? I've got the day off tomorrow, so I shall see what I can do. :)

My problem isn't so much the using of wikicode or the updating itself. It's the making time to do it and getting my head into the right space. I'm easily distracted sometimes and something like wiki work tends to require attention (from me at least.)
