Writer's Block: Looking Back

[Error: unknown template qotd]

My first LJ post was March 11, 2001. I'd only started the journal because everyone else I knew, it seemed, had one, and it was slowly replacing email as a means of contact. Reading back on it... I was so naive. I believed that you could end a twelve-year-long relationship amicably, that we could continue living together without hating each other. That I would have the brain power to actually get myself together and try and write something publishable. *wry* Part of me looks back at that first entry and is amazed at how young I sound - only eight years ago. So much has gone on since then.

Mine was in June of 2001 and pretty similar sounding to yours.

That could very well be.

I think it's important to remember just where we've come from. It gives us focus as to where we'd like to end up, I believe.

What a way to start a journal. Wow, I'm still slowly tagging my old entries, and some of it is really painful (like physically flinching), for a lot of reasons. Oh man, I fucked up lot in the last 8 years of LJ. I guess we all do, but to have it there in writing.

*sigh* but what can you do? This is life.

Are you going to dreamwidth?

Yeah, you know, I have a lot of thoughts about LJ, and how it's connected me with people over the years, and disconnected me, but strangely, with so much water under the bridge - and with all that has happened, all over the place, I wouldn't ever be able to be completely honest. (although what is true, and what isn't changes all the time).

It shows how much my real life has meshed with LJ, and this has been good in many ways, and a drawback in so many. I have a DW account now, and I'm wondering if how I approach LJ is what I will repeat with DW. I dunno. Your post has gotten me all thinky.

Now now, we've all got the 'Look, I'm a n00b!' posts. They're good for you. Keeps us humble, maybe.

I'm with [livejournal.com profile] danamaree. OMG are some of my early entries just... painfully young and ridiculous. Occasionally, I consider privating them so only I have to see the horror.

And, dude. 2001. That's mind-boggling.
