LJ Homepage Tweak

For those, like me, who feel that if they'd wanted [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] spam they'd have joined the community, there is a solution. And if you don't use Firefox (like my work computer) and can't use the adblock app, never fear, you can do the Cyrillic part and just render it incomprehensible! (if it wasn't already with the amount of L33T speak they use any way /curmudgeonly old person).

And for what it's worth, the change irritated me, but what really annoys me is the behaviour of the comm's owners and members on [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]. They've shown exactly how childish and self-entitled they are and have succeeded in making me determined to never go near the site. Way to make LJ look like utter morons for choosing your site as the homepage feature, idiots.

Edit: Trying out the repost feature, which I found via [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] buried under all the crap.

Thanks for the heads up. I never use the homepage, so it's only an abstract annoyance for me. But this "improvement" they've made makes anything else on the homepage pretty much useless.

Also, another solution suggested

Try going to the portal page instead.

Oh, that's so much better now. I can actually see the Writer's Block and comments portion again.

No, actually, Livejournal has convinced me that I want to now join this community! They talk about the Hills and pop stars who might be pregnant and thus are fat, stupid whores! There's commentary with flashing .gifs and animated actions and Michael Jackson everwhere! (BTW: That's post-dead Michael, who is a sainted starchild, as opposed to pre-dead Michael who was a creepy animated corpse that liked to dangle his purchased children out of third story windows and touch the genitals of small boys)

I think I must go there now and with great intensity speak about whatever was in the tabloid today!

Goodlord the moderators of that place are insufferable. Yes, I get that you're quite high on the social food chain at the moment, and that's awesome, but that is not enough of a reason to expect each and every person to express themselves exactly as you do and ram them with acronyms when they don't.

O_O Yeah, I saw some of the users there and was just baffled by how asshatted they were being to people who were just saying they wanted to be able to opt out of the ONTD posts.

And they kept using the argument "We make LJ money"....uh, no. Paid users make LJ money. The amount that they generate from ads probably doesn't even cover the cost of all the bandwidth their content (especially with all the animated gifs) generates.

I've contemplated making a community entitled something like "saynoto_ontd". If I did, though, I'd have to restrict posting access. The point of the community would be to show a large collection of LJ users voting 'no' to having to see ONTD posts, and I would put "this is not a community for bashing ONTD or its users" as rule #1. Most of the community's content would be stuff like how to not have to see the posts, and who in LJ to contact to complain about it. Seems like the only way to do it without having to deal with pro-ONTD trolls.

I think I'd want to have the information on exactly how to contact LJ about not wanting ONTD on the homepage, as well as the information you linked to.

But the poll is a good idea.
