Gold, gold, gold!

*chuckles* I'd forgotten to mention this, but it was on the news again. Yesterday an Aussie speed skater won our first ever Winter Olympic gold medal. And in true Aussie fashion, it was more arse than class. All the other competetors had fallen while he was hanging safely in the back, and simply skated past to take the gold.

*snickers* You can just see the expression on his face saying: "What the fuck?"

JB, Dex, and I watched it at the bar on Sat. night. You'd have loved it, they whole bar was cheering and clapping for the Aussie. :)

Then you had the amusement of watching the American and the Canadian scramble/crawl across the finish line for the silver and bronze. :)

He's been really cool about it, too.

The phrase that's been bandied about is "That's short-track." He totally accepts that he wasn't the best skater in the race... he was well back when the crash happened... but he was the last man standing and sometimes that's what matters.

And then there is the added irony that he makes Ohno's skates and told him to give the company a little plug when he won. And then the Aussie ends up with the gold.

This is one of those things that totally falls under the 'truth is stranger than fiction... because if it were fiction no one would believe it' category.

But, hey Australia, congrats on your first Winter gold! ;)

Saw the replay Sunday night and I gotta say, like everyone else, "It's short track." Them's the breaks and really and truly, congrats to your boy for winning. ^_^

The best, best part is that the Aussie only made it to the medal round in the first place because the three guys in front of him in the semifinal round fell.

Such an unbelievable string of luck.

Congrats to the Aussies though. Couldn't wish it on a better bunch.
