BRM stands for Bicycle Repair Man, a Michael Palin character from Monty Python's Flying Circus. The housemate was a bicycle mechanic for a long time, and I tagged him with the handle at the time we were both getting involved in things Net-wise. It does have another techie-type meaning, but I can't remember what that is.
