It seems like the only time I have any time lately is at work. Or after work, in this case, sitting around waiting for tai chi time. So I should probably make the most of it. *grins*

Lessee, last weekend I went to Melbourne, primarily to see a band with [livejournal.com profile] yasminm, My Friend the Chocolate Cake (hereafter known as MFTCC). Excellent, excellent band, even with the horrible yuppie-factor of the venue. The new album kicks all kinds of arse. :)

I had to catch the train down, after all, as BRM realised he had another engagement up here that weekend and wasn't driving down. Which presented a problem - after paying for tickets ($80) and withdrawing some spending money ($50), I discovered I had the princely sum of $30 left in my bank account. To last until Thursday, which is pay day (tomorrow, YAY! *happydances*), and include my tai chi session tonight ($10). But I'd promised myself I would get two specific things whilst I was in the Big Smoke, and so I skipped a couple of meals and have been eating grilled cheese on toast (my fridge is empty, more on that in a bit) all week. My two specific purchases were:

Midnight Nation #11 and 12

the new MFTCC CD, Curious

And I can tell you, those were worth a week of grilled cheese and growling stomach. Midnight Nation's finale, what can I say? Apart from "You stole my story idea, JMS, you bastard!" *grins* And "You can write my birthday fic now, [livejournal.com profile] icewing00." The CD is also highly enjoyable, and I'm thinking of a review for the [livejournal.com profile] australianmusic list, to give the kiddies a taste of something different. Depends on time constraints, what with the moving and all.

Melbourne was also marked by a gathering of the Maelstrom - no, not the ficcer, the group of ficcers - and much talking and laughing and having of fun. I tell you something, guys, never take for granted the proximity of friends. Call them up, hang out, do stuff together. Because when you can't, you'll wish you had. Still, three weeks should just fly by now, and in a few months I'll possibly be looking for some alone time. ;)

This week is marked by frantic packing. Mum and Dad are helping me move out on the weekend, which means I have to have everything pretty much organised by then. Mainly because the Vietnam Vet with post traumatic shock and the carer's syndrome-afflicted partner, both of whom who are afflicated by a Death Flu, aren't in the best condition to cope with disorganisation. Actually, it shouldn't be too bad, since I am the Queen of Moving - three moves in six months, not a single breakage, is my record so far ;) - and I've gotten a bit done. I'm going to need more boxes, though. Luckily there's some here at work left over from that move, but I need a car to get them home. One of the limitations of a bike is you can't carry large objects on it. So I'm going to have to call Dad and see when he's next at the vet's club - it's just across the street from work - and foist some boxes on him. I just don't want him to feel he has to make a special trip, as he and Mum have and are already doing so much for me. It seems I'm always being a nuisance, even though I know they don't mind.

I'm also trying to empty my fridge, so I don't have to dump too much food on mum and dad or BRM. There wasn't much point to shopping this week, even though there's only a couple of capsicums (home grown, yum!), a half-tomato, four eggs and a small block of cheese in there. I made tuna casserole (using tinned salmon my aunt had given me from her work-freebies) on Monday, so I've been eating that and grilled cheese on toast. And mum left soup in there over the weekend, possibly spurred by the fridge's decidedly non-full state. Soup tonight after tai chi, yum. :)

Last night I attempted to pack my backpack, with mixed results. I need to reconcile just what I'm bringing, and why, so I dont' end up with a bunch of stuff I'm never going to use/wear. And so I don't cripple myself carrying the damn thing. It's going to be bad enough when I get to London - I have no idea yet if anyone is coming to help me. Brit ficcers, read the BritCon list already! :) But I shall make another attempt later, when I'm not distracted by other things, like the whole "packing all my worldly possessions into boxes" thing, at least not quite so much.

Hmm, fifteen minutes before I can head over to the Scout Hall. Think I'll start getting my stuff together. Catch you guys 'round - just 'cause I'm not answering stuff doesn't mean I'm not reading it! :)

Oooh...new MFTCC? You must bring with you to Dexcon. Please? :)

I've been doing the packing thing too. Or, rather, I've been putting things in boxes and Jenn is moving me. Because she's so good to me. :)

*bounces* I get to see Rossi in less than two months!

Midnight Nation has a final!!!

And would it be anything like the story you were talking about at GASP? Could you send a plot synopsis, or something similar? I've no idea when I'll ever see a copy.

shorah,
MC.
