My sympathies... I picked it up for the second time (yes, the second time) the week before mid-terms my sophomore year at university. My advice: oatmeal baths, calomine lotion, take the medicine if they gave it to you (I got an anti-herpes drug), baby oil to anoint yourself after the frequent showers to ease the itching, and stay the hell away from anyone with a camera (my otherwise beloved father visited me at the dorms bearing flowers, tons of fruit, and a camera and I still have the picture). Also, pack yourself a little lotion tube for your Walkabout so you can treat the pox-marks after the scabs come off. Don't pick the scabs -- they really do scar.
Also, and here's the ugly part -- I had a very severe case, but anyone over the age of twelve has to be very wary of complications. It's not always shingles. I had four months of ear infections afterwards, for example.
