Hah! I know right where you're at! I used to bike (motor-, not pedal-) down there on the weekends all the time. If you have the opportunity, take a walk (not drive) through the Pier area, head to Coit Tower, see Fisherman's Wharf. Lots of good stuff. The Pier area of San Francisco seems (from what Seraph tells me) similar to the harbor areas of Sydney, so you may appreciate it.
