Today's post will go relatively quickly, tho', mainly because I had a very quiet weekend.

Friday - I went to see David Bridie live at the Corner Hotel in Richmond. I was expecting to be there on my own - no biggie - but who should I run into when I walk in but BRM. I should have known he'd be there - he was the one who got me into My Friend The Chocolate Cake in the first place. He was there with his housemate Sandy, and, after making sure it was really okay and they weren't on a date or anything, I joined them at their table. Which meant I got a seat whilst waiting for the show.

You'll be pleased to know that I had two drinks for the whole evening; feh on all those who express surprise at this. I am fully capable of restraining myself, believe it or not.

Yeah, I've had people giving me a hard time at work about this particular issue. Feh on all of them, I say.

Anyway, back to the show. Machine Translations were playing support, and they played a lot from their new album which is a lot less atmospheric and has more of a beat than their previous ones. A pleasant surprise. Then David came on around 11.30pm, and I was in the Happy Place for the next two hours. Obviously he played a lot of stuff off the new album, but he also played some songs from Act of Free Choice, as well as a Not Drowning Waving song called "Blacklake" about West Papua. The new album is defintely more danceable - I haven't moved so much at a Bridie gig... ever. He also mentioned the Google thing with the weapons of mass destruction search I've seen on LJ a few times and which I'd mentioned to BRM earlier.

For those who don't know about this, go to Google, and type "weapons of mass destruction" into the search criteria. Then hit "I'm Feeling Lucky". What appears is not your conventional error message - read it carefully and be amused. I was, and so was David Bridie.

The show finished at 1.30-ish and of course the last train had gone. I started walking towards the city, thinking I'd be better able to catch a taxi away from the hoardes of people. I did - at Flinders St Station, a walk of perhaps five kilometres later. It was actually a nice walk, the night clear and cold and very still, not many people around, lots of stars... well, as many as you'll ever see in the city, any way.

Saturday was spent doing a few domestic tasks I'd let slide, including the rest of the Mountain Of Laundry. I had brunch down at the Comfortable Chair because brekkie at home was impossible - I ran out of milk and bread at the same time. So off I went for an enormous plate of eggs and toast and tomato and mushrooms and spinach. I actually couldn't finish it all, and that's saying something, especially to those who have seen me eat. I can eat a lot, and frequently do, since the vegetarian diet means I metabolise food a lot faster these days. So yeah, spent a couple of hours having brekkie and reading a book I borrowed off Bounce (excellent, BTW, and I'll tell you who wrote it when I get home and check, cause I've forgotten), and then I went back home, pulled the bread out of the maker, tossed my laundry into a backpack and headed down to the laundromat for another couple of hours. Which pretty much took care of my day, since I'd gotten up fairly late after my evening out.

Sunday - another quiet one. For some reason I was extremely reluctant to do much, and spent the morning in bed finishing off Bounce's book. I pootled around online for a bit before deciding to call Canada, and I managed to catch Doqz, Dex and JB - three ficcers for the price of one. I felt much less mopey after that, and was considering going to the Quarry for an afternoon's writing session, but soemhow got distracted by Phil's Buffy DVDs again and wound up watching the second half of series four again. Ah well. Mum and Dad called, my brother's going to have the laser surgery on his eyes at the end of the month once the parentals get back from travelling (they're going away for a couple of weeks) and the Sydney Swans won their game against West Coast.

Speaking of sport, it's that time again - yep, Le Tour De France has begun, and Australia's Brad McGee has taken out the first stage and is wearing the yellow jersey. Go Brad. :) Lance Armstrong is currently seventh, although I doubt he'll stay there long. The man is a machine.

I'm on front counter today, which means I'll have slightly more to do than the rest of revocations (we're out of work again, already!). The new boss also starts today - I used to work with him at Heidelberg, and he's okay. Not as good as Tony, but Tony is a tough act to follow. I've heard from someone I was worried about, which is good, and Amanda's sent me more jobs to apply for. Let's see if I can't make this week productive...

So, how were people's weekends?

My weekend...

...was great until I arrived back in my room to discover that half of my room had flooded while I was away.

More later. Is late, I'm frustrated as hell, and I need sleep.

*hugs* Hope you're doing well. And don't worry about me, I really did have a great weekend. Just colossally annoyed at the world right at the mo.

I saw Mr DB on saturday night. I was all geared up for Machine Translations, but no show, got some local guitarist instead. Still, 2 hours of Bridie goodness. I remain, and forever will be, in love with that man.
