Getting back onto AIM and talking to Lise and Farli and Oberon last night (and talking to Obie now) has made me feel glad I know such great people. Lise actually sent me a postcard (that I got yesterday) with feedback on it. *grins happily* I love that girl. She's always thinking of her friends. In fact, people are always doing that, surprising me (pleasantly!) with a thought or a comment or something like that. Staffie asking how I'm doing whenever I see him, Indi's comments to my journal, Ashlan's get well card, Lise's postcard, the care package Acey sent me after BRM and I broke up, the hugs, RL and virtual... Sometimes I'm so damn lucky to know these people. I just wish I wasn't restricted to this damn screen - there's something ineffably friendish in going out together, having coffee or a beer, talking and laughing and all the rest of it. Still, there's always Dexcon.

Speaking of Dexcon, I checked out flight prices last night online. Uck. It's going to be more than last year. What I don't understand is how it can be only $1300 to Vancouver from Sydney, and $2100 to Toronto from Melbourne. Looks like I'm going to have to go into the Discount Flight Centre in Albury and wheedle. Although I like the idea Lise and I cooked up - she's planning (hopefully) to drive either to or from Dexcon from Vancouver with some other ficcers, which would mean a) somewhat cheaper flight in or out for me, and b) I get to spend time with my LiseGroupie, and see more of Canada. It's so dumb just going over there for Toronto (as nice as it is), but it's hard to afford travel through Canada, especially on my current wages. Bah. Hopefully things will pan out - I can't ask for time off until Peter gets back this week any way, adn I won't have time to go to Albury until May, with the way my time is panning out.

Lessee, court has been eerily unbusy, especially after Easter. We were expecting all sorts of nastiness in custody, and there wasn't anything much at all. Same for today with the intervention orders. Half didn't even turn up, and so we struck them out.

Mr Gurvich (the magistrate) continues to freak us out by being nice. At least I know why now. He's hoping to get the permanent circuit job up here, so he's making sure he makes nice with the court staff and the local police. *shakes head* Honestly, court politics will beat ficcer politics hollow every time.

As always, I have way too many ideas and not enough time to write them. Raph and I were talking about my 'mutant community centre' idea - she's given me an excellent opening scenario - but I'd like to get a couple more 'mainstream' fics out there first. And I haven't touched any of the original stuff for a month or two, which is bad since I'm supposed to be trying to get published this year. Procrastinators Are Go!

Maybe more later. I'm hungry and I don't want to miss the news tonight.
