Because it will bite you on the arse every time.

Take today: maybe fifteen Children's Court criminal cases (yes, it's that time of the month *snickers*), six Magistrate's criminal matters, four protection applications (which normally take two minutes, 'cause they're usually by consent), a couple of intervention orders and a Family Law matter. Oh, and a Crimes Compensation file to be looked at. A bit of a mixed bag, nothing too major. And the magistrate was Ms Broughton, who is relatively quick.

*snorts* They were still sitting at four when I left.

As always, the blame lies with the solicitors. No-one was ready with anything today, and we'd bloody well adjourned the most difficult matters! And every thing turned out to have hidden complications... and the police brought in a serious remand matter (breaching an intervention order, member of a bikie gang with some serious assault and murder priors, and already on bail to boot). Definitely a two-Coke day for me.

[Note: I believe Coke is Evil. It has no nutritional value, has way too much sugar for me and it gives me the hiccups. I'm also addicted to the damn stuff and sometimes it's the only thing that gets me through a long day. :P]

And tonight was the night BRM had asked me to go and do a talk on the courts to his class that he tutors through the YWCA. It never rains...

Let me explain about BRM's class. It's a part-time job he applied for about a month ago, and this is his second week of teaching. His class is about ten teenagers between fourteen and seventeen who are benefits - they are required to do some kind of education course in order to maintain their payments. These kids are rough - not impossible, but very demanding. All I can say is, I'm glad it's him and not me. And I bet he's glad it's only twice a week. *grins* But the best thing is (aside from the $25 per hour he's earning) is that he honestly enjoys it, even though it's damned stressful. BRM's a natural teacher, and nothing makes me so happy as to see him doing something he feels is useful and gives him some sense of fulfillment. Because for years he felt he was no good for anything - he just needed to find his niche.

My talk went okay. Actually, it was more a question and answer session, but it seemed to go okay, although it was hard holding their attention - BRM said they'd been hyper all day, poor bugger. I was trying to get across that the court system is there to help, as much as to punish, but I don't know how well that went through. Oh, well. This is why I'm not the teacher. ;)

I did get a meal out of it, too. Vegetable pasta. :)

I was very glad to get home, though. Did my usual Net routine, checking my email, the round robin boards (the Aussie-Only RR is moving along nicely, with some good posts) then my LJ Friends list, then Topica (for my mailing lists) and the Scratching Post. I usually do this without any kind of interactive stuff (AIM, chat) on, because I can't concentrate well enough, and sometimes I'm happier just crusing through without being seen. :) And a lot of the time, I'm not entirely functioning.

One annoying thing this evening, tho' - I was trying to tape my Moulin Rogue CD for IceWing, and my brother's tape deck decided to eat the tape. I spent twenty minutes unravelling tape, picking the last bits out with a pair of tweezers. Grr. So I'll wait until Thursday, and see if I can do it at Mum and Dad's place instead. BRM's tape deck is also rooted. :P I still have two tapes left, one for IceWing and one for Crantz - although I'm still working out which Aussie music to send to the Crantzling. *grins* Yes, the Aussie Music Pusher is still active.

Magical ride in this morning - Cecil ran like a dream, with the tyres pumped up to 100 PSI and some more oil on the chain. Absolutely freezing 'though. Real brass monkey weather. Frost everywhere, two pairs of gloves on the bike, and my breath blowing great clouds of steam into the perfectly still morning air. Cold, but perfect. :) There was still some frost in the shady areas at 1pm when I escaped court for lunch.

OH! that's right! My investment money (the one I cancelled) has been processed, adn I'm not poor any more! Got $7200 in my account! Yay! This means I'll be able to pay off my credit card, the rent and the Phone Bill From Hell, and maybe put some extra money on the credit card for Dexcon. *beams* Now I can feel better about buying those CDs I want and the new Neil Gaiman book over there. :) I'm saving the bulk of it (around $5000) and putting that in my other bank account, the interest-bearing one, to put towards a new computer next year - Tosh is getting crankier and crankier.

Hrm, that's pretty much it for me - too tired to think of anything else. I think a bath is in order.
