Brain drain
Oct. 3rd, 2001 05:55 pmI swear, my IQ has dropped several points over the past couple of days from sheer the ugh-ness of work. I could practically feel my brain oozing out my ears during the last intervention order case of the day. Mr Hardy, the magistrate, looked pretty much the same way.
We're starting to make a pretty good team. I remember him from when I was a trainee clerk at Heidelberg and he was still a barrister, and we used to have some interesting chats. Now he's the regular magistrate for the region, we're working out a routine. It's good to be able to know what to expect and what's expected of you. And he's getting faster, too - we had a huge court list yesterday, 69 cases in total by the time Greg Duncan had finished springing stuff on us. A few months ago we'd be sitting until 6pm, but we actually managed to clear it all by a few minutes past four. Today we finished at half past three, good news for my paperwork, although we did end up adjourning an assault not guilty contest - we were hopelessly over booked again. Sometimes I think it would be a lot better to have the diary on the computers, so we would be able to check in court what's available and what's full. But unfortunately our limited technology hasn't gotten quite that far.
An early night fo me tonight, I think. Which means no RR posts, unless they're short. *snorts* Yeah, right, like I can write a short post. There's so much I want to do - and a lot of characters to play with - that I could write twenty pages, easily. The problem is getting them done in time to post. I had a whole scene between IJ and daroos that I had to cut because Ana beat me to it in the three hours or so it took me to post. And then it turned out that Hex, Trish and I had all posted within five minutes of each other and screwed up each other's posts. Ah well, it's all been fixed up reasonably well. And I loved Epi's giving Shai a snake phobia - we needed some kind of lever to use on Shai's character, and that was perfect. ;) This way Commando Cutie won't be able to run over us roughshod. *grins*
Not much else - like I sxaid, I'm pretty brain dead at the moment. Gonna chat for a little while, edit the latest RR posts I've compiled, and try and think of something for dinner. BRM's been working on his Philosophy essay all day, so i doubt he's in a much better state than me. *grins wryly* Looks like it could be toasted cheese sandwiches again.
