Not dead, nor resting. ;)
Nov. 26th, 2001 07:14 pmIt's weird, you'd think living on my own, I'd be online more, not less. But I'm finding I'm only taking the time to check email and LJs, and then jumping off again. Of course, the unreliability of Mum and Dad's phone line couple with the unreliability of my ISP (first purchase with my first full-time paycheck, a different ISP account) means I suddenly disappear without warning. Plus, Dad's office chair sucks warm sick through a straw. Really. It's hard and uncomfortable and has no support for my back at all. So I'm finding my shoulders and neck are getting majorly stiff after an hour. And it takes me that long to read all your LJs. :)
I have found a great position to write in, tho'. I take the laptop out to the bar, plug it into the stereo lurking underneath so I can play mp3s through good speakers, and perch on a bar stool and write. If I had a phone jack out there, it'd be perfect. But then again, the time off is probably doing me some good. There is such a thing as too much chat. Like when you start mentally thinking of your actions in terms of "/me goes into the kitchen". ;)
I stopped by the flat today and did a spot of gardening. I'd grabbed a bag of shredded paper from the work shredder, and used that and leaf litter from under the gum trees in the park as mulch, so hopefully it'll survive me being away for the weekend. BRM will forget to water, I know it. So I'll give it a soaking either Tuesday or Wednesday (*grins* if the Road Trippers don't mind a brief walk to my proper house, as opposed to the borrowed one) and then go rescue it again on Monday when we get back. I didn't spend that time and effort planting a veggie patch for it to die of dehydration. Besides, things are growing like crazy. The nastursiams (sp?) are flowering already.
Dang, forgot to grab some fresh basil and coriander while I was there. Again. Maybe I'll drop by again tomorrow.
BRM still wasn't back, either. There was a message on the phone about a dental appointment for him tomorrow morning, so either he's on his way back, or he's forgotten. I left him a note to check the message bank - it's a phone message service, not a machine, so you don't always know when there are messages unless you actually ring in and check. I think I might try his mobile, just to make sure he hasn't died in a firey crash or something.
Oh, got a call about the Heidelberg job - I didn't even get an interview. Obviously my job application technique needs some work. Trevor (the registrar in charge of Heidelberg and the person looking over applications) wants me to call him next week and go over things with him. Gah. Good thing I wasn't hanging on getting that one, although I can't see what the problem is - last application I wrote was even worse, and I got an interview for that. Fekt.
Hmm, dinner calls. First proper meal I've actually cooked here, if you can count roast potatoes a real meal. I've either been out, or had leftovers and noodles. Got me a hankering for some fresh veggies, so it's coleslaw with the potatoes. And cheese, of course. :) Time for me to attend to that.
Catch you later. :)
Oh, Yasmin, Andraste, could one of you let me know things are on track for Wednesday? I'm assuming you're still coming up on the way to AussieCon. ;) And I found a much better pizza place than last time. :)
