A day packed to the gills.
Feb. 6th, 2002 10:27 pmIt's been a while since I've had a day that's been so solidly packed full o' stuff to be done, but it feels good. Court was, as I expected, bloody awful - we ended up sitting until 5.30 and that was only because we adjourned the last things off. Protection matters, both of them, always a whole barrel of fun, not. These are matters where children are removed from the care of their families due to abuse, neglect or abandonment, and they're always a powder-keg of emotions. Even more so when the people are kept at the court all bloody day because agreement can't be reached about contact visits.
I had something to look forward to afterwards, though, my first tai chi class. And yes, this is going to become a regular thing - I really enjoyed it. The instructors are easy to talk to, the class isn't huge and not miles away (just across the road from the new court *grins*) and it's affordable, or will be once my pay comes through. *growls* For some reason this year they're paying us on Thursday, not Wednesday, which means I have five dollars to my name at the moment. I can't wait until I get this damn credit card paid off.
Any hoo, I really enjoyed the class. It took me a little while to slow down my movements - I'm timing them to my breathing, similar to my swimming - but it felt so good to be doing something like that again. I hadn't realised how much I missed it. And Michelle, one of the instructors, is going to go through the applications with me after class, since they don't teach them to beginners as a rule, not in depth, any way. Scares them off, thinking they might be able to hurt someone. *rolls eyes* People don't understand that one of the fundamental parts of martial arts is not using it. Restraining yourself because of the damage you can inflict. "With great power comes great responsibility". Yes, get two or more martial artists together and they will discuss ways to maim people, but that's generally what it is, talk. I've never had to use mine in an offensive way yet, after ten years of training, and in a way, I hope I never do. But that doesn't stop me from learning new techniques.
Off to bed now, for me. Another rough day tomorrow, and John Hardy isn't going to be a happy camper after today. :P Apologies to those in the Corner last night - my connection dropped out on me, and wouldn't come back up straight away, so I decided it was a hint to go to bed. ;)
Catch you later.
