I've had a really good morning. Why? Because when I came in, Steve Mcleod was running frantically around trying to find someone with Children's Court experience to go next door and benchclerk, the Children's Court being extremely shortstaffed due to Spring Flu. And hey, there was me, with all my work under control and the appropriate experience ready, willing and available to be called on. So basically I escaped PERIN for half a day and spent it sitting in a very interesting case. The downside was I had no internet access at all, but hey, I was actually busy and didn't need it.
Man, I'd forgotten how much I enjoy working in regular courts.
There's a sense of purpose, of getting things done. I'm working directly with people, and yes, there's abuse and threats and whatnot, but there's also just helping someone out. I'm also working with magistrates, being asked my opinions, using my poor, cobwebby brain. And there's certainly not the frustration of sitting around all day without anything to do after wandering around and asking people for work. The day goes faster.
Unfortunately the case settled and they only needed me for the morning, but God, I enjoyed myself. I miss that kind of work.
I think I'm seriously going to have to lay plans to get out of here come New Year. I can't stay in PERIN, it's sucking the soul right out of me, the same way being stuck in civil at Melbourne was. I'm an all-rounder, a people person, and I can't do the coporate drone, sitting at a computer all day, kind of job. So once my holiday plans are finished with, I'll see if I can't talk Simone into letting me go. It's not likely, but maybe I can enlist John Hardy's assistance.

I've discovered there may be something wrong with my message bank service. People have been trying to call me and the service isn't picking up the calls. Meaning no-one's been able to call me and leave a message. I'm trying to get onto the phone company to fix it, so hopefully I'll have it working soon. But in the meantime, if anyone's called and I haven't gotten back to you, it's because I didn't know. Email's generally the most reliable way to get hold of me, or my work number.
The upshot of this? I'm going to email John and see if he's been trying to contact me before I write him off. I was wondering what had happened there...
