Okay, that has to be one of the more exhausting Auscons ever. Possibly due to the fact Amanda and Phil and I ended up being very naughty Snday night and went to the Joint which is a 24 hour bar.

This explains the lack of entry yesterday - no sleep at all plus a really slow work Internet connection (it went funny yesterday for some strange reason) means Rossi falls asleep on her desk and can't construct coherent sentences. However, I've had fourteen hour's sleep since (I went to bed at 5.30 yesterday afternoon and didn't wake up until 7.30, my usual time, this morning), so I'm awake and functional again. :)

It appears everyone had a good time this weekend. This is good. :)

I got my computer back yesterday - I have yet to turn it on and find out how it is, but I have it back. Apparently the hard drive is developing errors and will need eventual replacement for between $400 and $500. *sighs* Hopefully later rather than sooner. I will be backing everything up on it tonight, and doing that regularly to avoid trauma like last week's. And it only cost me $150. I think the guy I spoke to was new, and that's why the heart attack-inducing quote.

Mum is out of hospital, sans gall bladder. Apparently they're optional in the scheme of things. Bodies are weird like that. Everyone, wish my Mum a speedy recovery. *waves*

And now I have to make up for yesterday with doing lots of work. Fortunately there is lots of work to be done, so I'll be able to redeem myself. So possibly no new bits of "In The Public's Service" to be done today, but never fear, there will be more.

Oh! Amanda gave me a new pair of sneakers! Red sneakers! To replace my other ones which are scarily worn out. I <3 Amanda!

Actually, I <3 the whole Auscon crew. I had a blast this weekend. :)

Just found this overview of the fandom on [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]. Recs will be imminent. Something to check out. :)

Although I was amused to read the overview about the fandom said that the lack of porn might not encourage people to read the fic - whilst I read the occasional bit of porn, I find I prefer a fandom to include stories with more plot than "two characters meet and shag each other senseless/ have a deep and meaningful conversation about their feelings over coffee". Porn plays a role in fandom, as does 'ship fic, but honestly, when a fandom becomes all porn/'ship, it becomes incredibly boring after a while. It's like anything - I get bored by a lot of the superhero comics these days because it's nothing but action and explosions. Again, these are good things, but not when they're done to death.

This is possibly one of the reasons why I don't read a lot of slash - it tends to be centred on the porn or the 'ship, and there's frequently not much in the way of an interesting (to me) plot. What porn/'ship I do read tends to be slash, if that will avoid someone slapping the label of "homophobe" on me, btw.

Consider the above to be my contribution to the 'unpopular opinions' meme, although I know it's not that unpopular amongst the people I talk to mostly. :) Some people won't agree, I know, but hey, that's what being individuals is all about.

We're on work bans again today, so there's no answering of phones or ordinary correspondence, and we're on the regular Magistrates' Court hours of 8.45am - 5.06pm, with an hour for lunch, 1-2pm. So if, by remote chance, anyone was thinking of calling me at work, try me at home instead. Mainly because I can't tell if you're a work call or a personal call. ;)

I had lunch down in the park today. It was very nice. I also managed to scribble down some more of the Oz story. Auscon is good for stirring the creativity - I haven't written much of anything for the last month or so.

And Alex just came past with food - diced tomato, fresh basil and onion mixed with garlic and olive oil, served on a slice of toast. I didn't catch the Italian name, but it was absolutely delicious.

I'm onto my second sheet of stats - aren't I a productive little court drone?

Well, now it's stopped thundering I've deemed it safe to turn my computer back on and see the state of my files.

And of course, there's good news and bad news.

Good news: my documents folder is safe, all stories recovered. And now backed up onto CD. Most other things seem to be there.

Bad news: all my Netscape settings have been lost, requiring me to wrangle a fix. I'd say it's a new version of Netscape, but for some reason it was remembering my previous account with Hotkey in Wodonga. I've managed to set it back up, but I've lost anything that was saved, including email for the past several months (I knew I should have emptied that backlog!), my address book, and my bookmarks. All of which is rather sucky and annoying.

The upshot: anyone who feels I should have their email address, email me at rossi(at)optusnet(dot)com(dot)au Anyone who emailed me anything in the past three or four months and hadn't received a reply and feels it was important, mail me again.

Still, it could have been a whole lot worse.
