Attention, Melbourne bibliophiles!
Feb. 7th, 2005 04:33 pmFound this on the work homepage. It is actually useful on occasion... I'm tempted to make Thursday my RDO, but I'm waiting on a call from the electrician - yes, I finally caved on that broken kitchen light and called them.

Buy a Book and Rebuild a Life!
3 February 2005
More than 30,000 books are on sale next week at the State Library of Victoria, and it’s all for a good cause. Twenty-eight public libraries across the state are donating titles for the Giant Book Sale to raise funds for the Red Cross Appeal for Tsunami Relief.
The sale will take place on the Library forecourt between 11am and 3pm on Thursday 10 February, 2005. Books on sale include adult non fiction titles, children’s picture books, paperbacks and popular fiction. Books will cost $1 each or $5 for a bag of books.
Public libraries regularly ‘weed’ out materials that may no longer be useful or have minor damage, to ensure their collections are current. These materials are usually sold at book sales.
‘This is a great opportunity for libraries to come together and work on this important community project. Public libraries have united to ask people to “buy a book and rebuild a life” in support of this relief effort,’ says Eastern Regional Libraries’ Community Liaison Manager Lorraine Seeger.
Public library staff will donate their time to staff the cash registers and hand out flyers to be distributed at city train stations.
Sponsors have been quick to step in and donate their services for the good cause. Courier company Toll Priority are collecting and transporting the books, Coles Myer will provide book-bags, Pride Events are helping with the tables, Tee Shirt Graphics are donating production costs for the t-shirts worn by library staff and Coca-Cola Amatil will be suppling bottled water on the day.
