So, today I ventured out into the world and spent large amounts of money. At the end of it? I have a passport, a bank draft for CA $975 and a collection of four bad passport photos in the mail to the Canadian Consulate in Sydney. Whole exercise cost me about $1150, including registered mail, which is about what I was expecting.

When the passport comes back, it'll have the paperwork in it to allow me to work in Canada for a minimum of two years.

I've been looking into what else I'll need. Apparently I'll be covered by the public health service, but it will take three months for me to be covered, so insurance will be a good idea for that time. There's also something about a list of personal items I'm bringing with me, which sounds whacked, but there you go. Think I'll be doing a lot of surface mailing, just to make things easier since I'll have to fill out the contents label for that any way. Banking stuff should be all right - apparently it's not hard to get an account - but I'll have to check with my credit card company that I can use that account for payments to avoid messy multiple transfers.

I also went and saw Star Wars Episode 3 today. It was... interesting. The thematic stuff was actually pretty nifty, the old story of the temptation of evil which actually related to some of the stuff I'm playing with in the RPG. The fight scenes, particular the last one? Really well done. But the dialogue... *cringes* George, you so suck at writing people talking, and poor, poor Natalie Portman - her role was appalling and you could tell she thought so. Ewan McGregor just carried the whole thing.

But yeah, glad I saw it, probably won't again unless it's on TV one night.
