This is reposted from my mate [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]'s LJ here. Considering the recent talk about blood donations etc, I'm hoping there's someone on my friendslist who is in the region who can help out.

This is an email I got from Lisa, the wife-

Hello,

I'm sending out this email because we need your help. They have told us that there is a shortage of platelets out here at M D Anderson in Houston. Bill is needing these platelets very bad, he is profusely throwing up blood now and since there is a shortage, they are rationing the platelets to surgery patients first, then what they have left goes to the other patients, if the have them. If any of you know ANYONE that LIVES in the Houston area, please see if they would be willing to come to M D Anderson Cancer Center at 1515 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, Texas and donate PLATELETS in Bill's name. They would have to donate in John William Hammock's name; give his name and his ID number 551499, that way, he would be sure to get the platelets.

Thanks for your help.

Love, Lisa and Bill

This is not a hoax of any kind, this is on the level. If you're a resident of Houston, Texas and can donate, please do?

Edit: Correction supplied by Duey:

"Yesterday, I sent you out MDA's blood bank number to give to anyone living in this area who would like to donate...well, I gave you a wrong number! I didn't have the paper with me and I thought I knew it by heart...shows you how much I know! Here it is: 713-792-7777. Or you can go online to www.mdanderson.org/bloodbank that site will give you all the information."

Again, if you're in the Houston area, sign up and donate platelets!
