Weddings, parties, anything
Apr. 13th, 2009 09:12 pmBack in the land of the internet-enabled after a couple of days without. Saturday was Leanne and Phil's wedding day - they got married in their front yard and had the reception in the shed. And it was one of the most relaxed weddings ever. [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], once I get the photos online there may be hints in store for you. ;)
The best part was as the vows were finished and the bride kissed, the first drops of a six hour rain storm fell. Normally rain on a wedding isn't considered a good thing, but considering the drought they've had here for the last several years, this was wonderful, if a bit noisy - the roof of the shed was corrugated iron. ;)
Then on Sunday we (mum, dad and me in one car, David, Eva and the mini-muffin in another) headed down to Ballan, where my uncle and aunt and their four kids (two with spouses) live. As an added bonus, my auntie Linda and cousin Barry also showed up - I haven't seen most of them in almost ten years. Much food was eaten, much booze was drunk and while conversation rose and fell in emotional terms, I think everyone had a good - or at least cathartic - time. I spent the night at the house, the rest went to a hotel (not enough beds) and after meeting up for breakfast/morning tea/hot cross buns, we went our separate ways home. Mum and Dad decided to go the longer scenic route. Lots of mountain ash forest and cute little towns. Lunch was at Kilmore (note to self, order steak rare in future, since "medium rare" = "well done" apparently) and we made it back this afternoon.
Wednesday I get to spend some time with Eva and Zoe while mum plays golf. Friday I go to Canberra - potentially on the bus, decisions to be made tomorrow - until Monday. Then I have five more days before I head back. Melbourne isn't looking likely, since I don't have a) time, b) money and c) a means to get there - the train's out of service while they rebuild the line and the bus is pretty crappy, which is annoying, but I'll at least call [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] before I head back to the land of winter.
