RIP John Hughes
Aug. 6th, 2009 07:44 pmPart of my adolescence passed away today at the age of 59. I adored The Breakfast Club and Some Kind of Wonderful and Ferris Bueller's Day Off especially - they were part of the teen mythos as I was going through it myself, fodder for any number of wistful daydreams. He wrote about the Outsider, those on the outskirts of high school society, and their eventual triumph as others saw the true person, not the stereotype "loser". Something I could relate to, certainly.
I didn't really watch his films after Some Kind of Wonderful. The Home Alone series was that sort of comedy that doesn't really gel with me, the kind that involves personal injury and humilation. But his earlier movies certainly struck a chord with me and it's a sad loss. RIP Mr. Hughes and may you have an eternity of amazing soundtracks.
PS: The router is playing up again, so I will probably jump offline for a while to avoid throwing it out the window.
