At the rate the G20 protests are going, I'm wondering if I'm going to be able to get to work on Monday, seeing how I'm in the middle of all that.
I believe in the right of protest. I believe in free speech. I believe that when there is something happening that we disagree with, we should say so. I believe everyone should have equal access to food, water, education, health care, a stable environment to live in. But I also believe in personal responsibility. Those cowards in masks who have attended just in order to generate property damage, they aren't representing any of that. They're representing random proprty destruction because they can get away with it. They're representing not giving a shit about the people whose jobs and livelihoods they impact by smashing up shops and banks and cafes. They're representing blatant self-interest and self-gratification. They don't care about the people they claim to be protesting on behalf of - if they did, they'd realise that the working poor are exactly the people who will be impacted most by all this.
To those protestors who are conducting their marches peacefully, thank you. To the arseholes who decided to smash up my adopted city yesterday, fuck you.
