deathpixie: (le tour)

So, Le Tour has finished as it started, with some kick arse cycling. Anyone watching the final sprint battle between Robbie McEwen and Baden Cooke has to agree with me there. Cooke managed to steal back the green jersey by a mere whisker, and I can tell you, even though I knew the result, it was still heart-stopping.

Overall results: Lance Armstrong won the overall winner's yellow jersey by barely over a minute, the closest margin of all five victories. Richard Virenque won the King of the Mountains polka-dot jersey, and Baden Cooke took the green sprinter's jersey by a margin of only 2 points ahead of McEwen.

Five of the seven Aussies who began the three week, 3426.5 km Tour finished, Matt Wilson and Nick Gates having to pull out at various points. The whole breakdown in on the site .

I have to say, this was one of the best Tours I've seen in a long while. There was some amazing racing, some amazing stunts, and it wasn't tainted by the drug spectre of previous years. Well, at least, not yet. ;) I'm sorry I missed the live broadcast of the final stage, but weird Korean movies called. ;)

And with the Tour finishing, I can once again have conversations that don't include cycling, I can find something else to do at 6pm every night, and my LJ will be safe for non-cyclists to read again. Normal transmission resumes. :)

And hey, I get to use the nifty icon again next year!
