haha where do you do karate? I used to do wing chun in oakleigh in a local town hall before we got our own school upstairs from a chinese grocer.. it was a church type hall and we had to share and sometimes the owners would accidentally 'double book' the hall and we always were the ones to come off second best :)

since you spoke of SPD cleats, to save your knees, you might want to look into ATAC peddles, they have lots more float allowing the knee more natural movement and less torque + twisting on a fixed cleat...
i wanna get some time z-control freeride peddles. they rock..
