Oiiiiii!! HOW could you NOT love 'Farewell My Concubine'!! Oh, dear GOD! I will one day own that movie. *_* It's beautiful! And it's very grim and beatufully done and maaaaan, it just stirs me! But I'm into Chinese cinema and watch it whenever I can.
Another good one is Raise the Red Lantern--though it's screwy on multiple levels. o_o You never know who's good, who's evil, or who's just plain selfish in this movie. It's scary. o.o Regardless, it's a good flick... though man, the ending is brainnumbing.
However, I suggest you avoid 'Temptress Moon'--by the same man who did FMC, but... if you thought that was tireding, Temptress will be worse. I didn't like it for the same reason that you didn't like FMC... so it's bound to be worse for you. o.-
