The poppies are more a "War In Europe" kind of thing - the whole idea came from the red poppies that grew on the fields of Flanders in France. As the US was _mainly_ (not entirely) involved in the war in the Pacific, it's not so symbolic for them.
But yeah, poppies are cool. I'm wearing mine on my jacket lapel next week.
