It was also mainly a WWI thing (originally, at least- hence November 11), which the US only got involved in at the end. So I guess it makes sense, that way. I just like the sentimental value of the poppies (and yes, I can still reel off the poem), and I wish the US had something at least *like* it (since I'm stuck here). The closest thing they've got are barbecues on Memorial day. Barbecues just aren't as sentimental as poppies. :P
