Life of Riley...
Jun. 12th, 2001 06:07 pm*smiles* BRM did some serious CD shopping whilst he was away, and came back with 10,000 Maniacs and The Lightning Seeds; it's from the Seeds that I've swiped my subject header. Look for the song in a THOSD post soonish. It's perfect for the current situation in the RR.
Which is far better. Sparrow posted a very good post, which provides a great platform for Yasmin's Evil Inspiration, and as soon as I get my act together, I'll make my own. I don't know whether it's leaving the RR for a few days has given me a better perspective, or whether bringing the gripes out into the open has done something. I must remember to post to the meta thread something to this effect; my enthusiasm for this RR has been renewed.
Part of it could also be because I was doing some reading last night - "SC2022", "The Subreality War" and the 1999 THOSD Holiday Party RR. Initially I was doing research for an idea I had, but then I was just nostaglia trawling. Especially with SC2022; that was my first 'epic' RR, and I've got to say, it probably has some of my best work. Particularly the "Lemming Squad" posts; I remember being a little awed that 'established' writers would let a relative newcomer write their 'deaths', but I'm glad they gave me the chance, because I think I performed to expectations. ;) And I remember being very pleased that Phil wrote me too; we'd been exchanging Subreality feedback emails (it was around the time of the creation of the Angst Squad) but I certainly didn't expect one of the old timers to take me seriously in an RR. And remembering that made me realise that maybe I'd been a little harsh on Hush and Sparrow - what they're doing is no more twinky than the whole "Elements of Subreality" idea that Jesse started and I elaborated on. So, I will be reeling in my own ego and trying to be a better Moderator. Starting with a bit of kudos to Sparrow for her post.
Bad Keeper, no cookie.
Damn, this is very happy music. A cross, as BRM says, between Pet Shop Boys and The Lucksmiths. Ana would love the Lightning Seeds, if she doesn't know them already. Which reminds me - must get to the Post Office tomorrow and mail Heatherly's cassette. I've had it done for a week now and keep forgetting. Bad me. One side is the Tiddas album I promised, and the other... is a surprise. ;) I lent Yasmin my Neil Finn CD (mutual friends may notice she's been listening to it from her LJ) so she can rip some stuff off it - "Driving Me Mad" was doing just that. ;) The Aussie Music Pusher Strikes Again! *mwahahahahas*
I've got to admit, I've been feeling rather flat today. My visitors have all gone. :( And while I was glad to get some sleep (in my bed!), I'm very sorry that they couldn't stay for longer. Or visit more often. Like every month. ;) Still, we had a good time, even with the crappy weather - although, not as crappy as it's been today, raining practically non-stop! - and restricted transport. That does it, I'm going to have to consider getting a car next year. Just a little second hand hatchbacky thing will do. Preferably automatic, although I do have a manual licence. And then people will have reason to fear me. ;)
Hrm, getting hungry. I may post later, or I might have to leave it until tomorrow. I still have to tell BRM that my folks know about our situation now, and that might get heavy. I hope not - I'm tired of everything becoming a big drama. But I ought to warn him, if only so he knows why Mum is stroppy at him. :P
*off to make spinach, mushroom and tomato pasta sauce*
