Probably the Kate thing - she seems to have told some story to the course co-ordinator about how he was stalking her or something, and it's got him worried. Not that he was stalking her, but it's a difficult slur to counter. That and the fact she's spreading the fact of his depression around the class, and people are treating him like a psycho.
*tsk* That's just a shame that some folks are so closed minded as to not be able to recognize that there are certain things (like depression and being handicapped) that doesn't make one completely non-operational.
Got my own small town story: I was with my parents and relatives at a seaside resort in the Philippines. I was wearing a somewhat modest one piece suit and I was 14. All of my cousins had shirts on over their suits... in fact EVERYONE had a shirt on over their suit. I didn't think much about the fact that I didn't until we were walking to dinner and some guys made a comment in Tagalog. My cousins flushed and got a bit mad, and then I found out that the guys had made a derogatory comment. I put my shirt on when I was able to.
