I wonder how much it extends to other subgroups? I mean, does it relate at all to the fact that a lot of the more geeky people (a lot of the ones we talk to on lj) have lower self esteem and need more acknowledgement that we exist and are cared about? Or is it something that you'd see a reasonable amount of, no matter what the social group was?
