1. Put your music player of choice on shuffle
2. Scene one = first song played, scene two = second, so on.
3. No cheating/skipping
4. Pass it on

Opening Credits: "Following My Own Tracks" - The Whitlams.

Hey I think I've seen this road before/and it's so hard to believe/I'd be back this way again after I told myself to leave/You never said that it was gonna be easy/But I didn't know just how hard it would be

The world's perkiest depressing song. Hmm. Actually, as opening credits it sort of works. Talking about giving myself a kick up the arse and all...

Waking Up: "Full of Grace" - Sarah McLachlan.

So it’s better this way, I said/ Having seen this place before/ Where everything we said and did/ Hurts us all the more.

Okay, mornings can be a bit on the hard side (I'm not a morning person) but this is a bit more introspection than I usually indulge in. This is shaping up to be one of those movies about the lonely single woman searching for love and meaning, isn't it?

An Ordinary Day: "No Turning Back" - Blush

It's like a scene from your favourite movie/ Anticipating everything.

One of my St Kilda bands. Kind of groovy, not entirely depressing but not entirely happy-go-lucky either. Yep, this one works.

The First Date: Goin' Up" - Great Big Sea.

Well there'll be smilin', there'll be laughin'/ Well that's good enough for me/ There'll be dancing all around you/ This is where you want to be/ So pile your boots up in the corner/ Hang your jacket from the door/ There's thirty people in the kitchen/ And there's always room, yes there's always room.

*giggles* Apparently the first date is one of those Irish-style parties where everyone's relaxing, making music and having fun, passing around a mason jar... Man, I'd love any date like that.

Falling in Love: "She's Moving In" - The Whitlams.

Cutlery, paintings, lots of feminine things/ A frilly mat to put under the phone/ Big old TV and a modular couch/ Her curtains will look good in this house/ Because she’s moving in, she’s moving in.

I swear, I'm not cheating on this. Apparently things get heavy, fast. Which be would be why I don't date?

The Rumble: "Better Be Home Soon" - Crowded House.

Somewhere deep inside, something's got a hold on you/ And it's pushing me aside, see it stretch out forever/ And I know I'm right for the first time in my life/ That's why I tell you you'd better home soon.

More of a breakup song than a rumble, but it could cover a montage of awful domestic-type arguments and fights. Gah. Now I'm depressed. Curse you iTunes!

The Break-up: "Melbourne" - The Whitlams.

In love with this girl, and with her town as well/ Walking 'round the rainy city, what a pity there's things to do at home/ She paints pictures on the wall, I awake to see the feelings of the night before.

The scary thing is, I can see this as a break up song. One of those breakups where the two people love each other, but things just fall apart. Gah.

Getting Back Together: "See The Sunshine" - Jape Squad

No lyrics available for this one as it's another of those small St Kilda bands. This works, tho'. Just listen and tell me if you agree.

Life's Okay: "Thank You" - Matt Banks

And I thank you for your excellent disguise and dangerous mind/ And I thank you for standing by a while/ Waiting a while for me to come back/ And I thank you for your lying lips that hide your loving eyes.

*grins* Matt Banks is very much a "Life's Okay" kind of guy, even if his lyrics can be on the darker side. Happy relationship and life stuff, yay! And yes, this is turning into one of those chick flicks, isn't it?

The Mental Breakdown: "Recurring Dream" - Crowded House.

Within myself, there are a million things.

Well, it's a happy sort of breakdown. Going off into my own fantasy world... hey, it's my Subrealty days! *grins*

Cruising: "Things I Do" - Radio Iodine

All the things I do confine me like bracelets/ cold steel bracelets/ All the things I do protect me like mother/ protects her baby

Okay, not a happy sort of cruising. This is one of those 'driving/walking around at three am being pensive' sorts of crusings.

The Flashback: "Skull and Crossbones" - Klaus Bedlet/ Pirates of the Carribean soundtrack

Ah, those long-ago days when I sailed the Spanish Main, plundering and pillaging...

The Party: "Take My Fancy" - The Little Stevies.

To travel on my own with my sister/ To drive all day and sing all night.

One of those folky, lesbian-cred type parties, I see. *grins*

Everybody Dance Now: "Paloma" - Carbon Leaf

Chase the high ground - where you'd rather be/ Where you might be found/ Face all aglow, to leave from here/ To pack up and go/ But it takes some time to get away/ And you will have to build from what remains/ To run it takes the courage of a lamb/ To love, the fierceness of a storm.

Kind of funky sort of dancing music. Yep, works for me.

Regretting: "Knockbacks in Halifax" - Weddings, Parties, Anything.

She got the bloke from Montreal/ I got the kiss upon the cheek.

*giggles* Oh, this sort of regretting. So cute and so fitting.

The Long Night Alone: "Never Had So Much Fun" - Frenzal Rhomb

I smoked a pack of cigarettes before midday/ I coughed up a lung around one/ I can't see a thing through my eyes that sting/ I can't remember having so much fun/ I've never had so much fun.

This kind of long night alone I can handle.

A Death: "Sunday Bloody Sunday" - Radiohead (a cover, obviously)

Broken bottles under childrens feet/ Bodies strewn across the dead end street/ But I wont heed the battle call/ It puts my back up/ Puts my back up against the wall.

So, right in the middle of the chick flick we get political activism. And possibly a more depressing version than the original. Okay.

End Credits: "Autumn Leaves" - Eva Cassidy.

Since you went away the days grow long/ And soon I'll hear old winter's song/ But I miss you most of all, my darling/ When autumn leaves start to fall/ I miss you most of all, my darling/ When autumn leaves start to fall.

And my girlfriend gets killed in said political activism. Damn. My movie has a sad ending, curse you iTunes!.

The sad thing is, I can really see a story in all this...

...my copy of Recurring Dream disappeared somewhere between university and getting home.

I must get a new one.
