Wodonga thoughts
Nov. 1st, 2006 05:54 amIn two more days, my little brother will be married. He and Eva are stressed half to death, but also very happy. They call each other 'Muffin' - it's adorable.
Mum and Dad are hosting a BBQ the night before, with David's Army mates and a few select friends and relatives. Naturally, Mum's wanting the place perfect beforehand, so there's a To Do list for Dad and me tomorrow. I've already been doing some of the heavier work in the garden, plus sweeping out the patio today. I'm getting soft - my hands have blisters. :P
I also have a new dress for the wedding. The weight I've gained in Canada made the planned dress a little too snug according to Mum, so it was emergency shopping trip today. Thankfully we found something in the first place we went to, although we had to wade through various Seventies-inspired horrors to get to it. And of course, after seeing myself in the change room mirror and a couple of scary dress styles that did nothing to flatter me, I feel like a beached whale. :P Ah well, back to the gym when I get back, and cut back on the beer.
Still, the new dress is very nice. I have my Dexcon dress for next year, and between my hair and the dress, I've gotten my Christmas gift early. I still like my hair, very much. Streaks of copper and gold really suit me. There will be photos, once I've gotten back and I can download the contents of my camera.
It's incredibly dry up here. They had maybe a couple of days of rain during winter, and the prediction is that there won't be significant rainfall until next August. The dam that supplies the area is down to 41% capacity, I think. There's a bucket in the shower to catch excess water to be used on the garden, and we're rationing toilet flushes and it's only the start of summer. Flying in over New South Wales, everything was brown. Not the gold of dry grass, but the dead-looking brown of scorched bare earth.
It really makes me appreciate Canada, land of rocks and trees and water, I can tell you.
It's strange. When I'm there, I miss people here. When I'm here, I miss people there. I need to collect all my favourite people in the world in one city, like Phil says, since there's nothing so frustrating as seeing a friend having a bad day and not being able to take them out to the pub or for coffee and give them a break. And so many of my people seem to need that this week.
Just remember - you're all great people, and hang in there, whatever it is bothering you. Love you all. *hugs*
