Cycling gripe for the day - stay out of my bike lane!

See, when I'm riding on the road, I fully understand that cars have priority (or think that they do!), and am accordingly paranoid. Hugely cautious, even. But part of my ride takes me down Royal Parade, with its wonderful, wonderful bike lane, and that, my petrol-burning friends, is my space. It's not an extra parking lane, a short cut around traffic, or even a motorcycle lane. It's for bicycles, and I don't appreciate having to slam my brakes on to avoid some dickhead van driver who decides to suddenly merge into me because he wants to get three cars ahead.

Ah, much better. You'll probably get to hear all about my favourite driver peeves as I get back into the city commute... and some of my cyclist peeves, too. Man, the two I saw this morning... talk about giving us a bad name.

The interview yesterday went pretty well. I don't expect to hear from them soon, mainly because there are a lot of candidates and they really need the admin assistant they're advertising for. They're going to shortlist and re-interview, so we shall see, I suppose.

Work continues. It's kind of boring, tho', so amusing emails at the work addy would be appreciated. And hey, I'll even reply! Eventually.

Quick question...

Umm, is your work email addy the same as it was before? I know you're working somewhere else now, so... *shrugs*

Ah. 'kay. Well, that's good to know. I'm not sure I have anything to send you just now, but if and/or when I do, now I know it'll get there.

Yay. ^_^

South Australian freeways . . .

. . .sounds like the title of a song. But no!

They have this cool thing on the new freeway out of Adelaide where the bike lane is separated from the road by a raised strip. It's only a couple of inches high, but it is enough to be noticed by cars and to (a) stop the inattentive driver squishing a cyclist by accident and (b) stop the attentive driver squishing a cyclist on purpose (cause, you know, have to be somewhere 28 seconds earlier). This little strip should be agitated for by all right-thinking drivy and cycly type peoples. I was so excited when I saw them, I actually bounced, which is kind of disconcerting (though it may have something to do with the fact that I'm a terrible cyclist and the strips may also assist in keeping me *in* the bike lane).
