I've created a list. Mainly because there isn't one, and I have Issues with Fanfiction.net. Mainly because they have issues with Macs and won't answer requests for help. But yes, there's a new list out there, and as much as I hate to add to the balkanisation of fanfic, if I want to read good Vertigo and independent, OTL is not the place for it.
So, off you go: hornandivory-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
Enjoy.

Date: 2003-04-22 04:35 pm (UTC)1) There's a bunch of Vertigo and independent fanfic out there that doesn't reach OTL, being posted on FF.net. And since I prefer not to muck around with the Mac-unfriendly pages of FF.net (it takes forever to load screens, for example), I thought I'd make a list where it was all available.
2) Previous to this list, my only two posting options were OTL and FF.net. I can't upload to FF.net since they did something behind the scenes that disagrees with my computer, and I do intend to continue posting to OTL. However, posting to OTL is getting to be a bit frustrating - if you write non-mainstream fanfic, you don't tend to get the readership from OTL. And like it or not, there is the perception that OTL is elitist and newbie-unfriendly, and despite our best efforts, that perception remains. I'm just providing another option for those unwilling to use OTL. Besides, I can always brainwash them into posting there later... *bwahahahas*
3) I'm sucking up to Luba. *grins*
4) The people who read and write Vertigo and independent fanfic aren't necessarily interested in fanfic from the two big companies. And if you're subscribed to OTL, that's what you have to wade through to pick up the nuggets of other stuff. Even with subject headers, it's a job.

Date: 2003-04-23 06:52 am (UTC)2) OTL is still *THE* place for all comics fanfic. As long as you're still posting there, good.
3) I will refrain from an exceptionally vulgar response here.
4) It's a 'job' to wade through the one or two posts a day? Well, I suppose when you're on nine different fanfic mailing lists... thus the problem with too many.

Date: 2003-04-22 07:31 am (UTC)Flood my mailbox with the same fic three times, until I have no choice but to give you feedback. :p
Okay, okay. I'm not particularly familiar with the Dreaming, but from what I could tell, this was a nice job. I'm sure the characters were believable (I bought them, but that likely doesn't say much *lol*), and the plot seems like it could have been canon.
Hmmm. Wonder if I should try reviving that feedback mailing list?
