Blood-suckers

So, I have just returned from my first visit to the Blood Bank. And I'm pleased to note that no, I did not pass out, although I did feel woozy for a portion of it. I have, apparently, excellent haemoglobin levels (not bad for a vegetarian, eh?), and the chickenpox of last year was actually good, since it means I may have antibodies still. On the downside, I have tiny little veins and sluggish blood, despite the litre of water I drank this morning, which meant I was there for ages and they couldn't get all they wanted out of me. But I am going to try again in ten weeks, and try and improve the water-drinking in the meantime.
So, go me. :)
So, go me. :)
Donate Blood

Date: 2003-06-23 09:18 pm (UTC)Don't worry about the slow bleeding. I used to be like that, but I've got a lot faster now. Don't know why - sheer willpower I think. Though I used to go with a guy who could donate the full 370ml in about 5 minutes. If ever he cut an artery he was bleeding to death in *seconds*. So there, that's the good side - you now know that you'd bleed to death really slowly *g*.

Date: 2003-06-24 01:30 am (UTC)There are ways to speed up the blood flow rate. *shrugs* It seems to be a guy thing to get into a competition with the person next to you as to who can bleed the fastest, spend the least amount of time resting before getting up, etc. Testosterone poisoning, I expect.
